Welcome to CanceRXnews.

This site is dedicated to providing the latest information on treatment and medications for cancer patients. I am not a medical doctor, I am a life sciences patent attorney who also has a Ph.D. in organic chemistry. I worked in a drug discovery laboratory for six years before I entered law school in 1978. I am head of the chem/biotechnology group at Schwegman Lundberg & Woessner, a firm I co-founded in 1993.

A few months ago, a close friend entered the terminal stage of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Because I mostly work for universities, physicians and drug researchers, I get many of the online newsletters and other notices about advances in oncology, e.g., new anti-cancer drugs. Soon after my friend received his prognosis, I learned that a new drug used to treat CLL had been approved in Europe. It was available to oncologists in the U.S. and it was approved for CLL in the U.S. within a few months. My friend left the clinical trial he had enrolled in, started on the new drug, and is in remission.

We both felt that there was a need for a website that would quickly report announcements of successful Stage III clinical trials, FDA “fast tracking” of promising drugs and FDA approvals of new anti-cancer drugs. I decided to get the site up and running before it is fully populated, since some cancers may remain refractory to treatment. Currently, I am bearing all of the costs of operating the site, and it is not affiliated with my law firm. Of course, the number of posts will continue to grow, but I am relying 100% on information released or generated by third parties and cannot vouch for its accuracy or its applicability to any individual patient. All I can say is, “I hope it helps.”
